10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix invites you to our 11th Annual Ikebana Art Exhibit with Bonsai, sponsored by The Japan Foundation, presented by The Sonoran Desert Sogetsu Ikebana Study Group, Phoenix Bonsai Society. Scottsdale Bonsai Society and Tucson Bonsai Society.

Ikebana, Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arrangement. Sogetsu Ikebana is a contemporary Ikebana art style that encourages creativity and artistic expression using the natural beauty of flowers, leaves, and branches, and unexpected, unconventional materials.

Bonsai is a Japanese term which, literally translated, means “planted in a container”. another art form of growing ornamental, artificially dwarfed tree or shrubs. This art form is derived from an ancient Chinese horticultural practice, part of which was then redeveloped under the influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism.

Ikebana is the art of arrangement to enjoy momentary meditation. Bonsai is the art of cultivation and continuous meditation.

An exquisite authentic display of both Ikebana & Bonsai will be exhibited throughout the garden. Activities this year feature artist led tours, live flower arrangement presentation, demonstrations, hands-on experiences, and a Special Ikebana Exhibit (Irodori: Colorful) at Tea house and Garden, offering Japanese Tea with sweet, alongside of live music entertainment with additional cost ($5).

Live demonstration “Inspirational Ikebana” & “Bonsai technique” by artists on both Saturday & Sunday.

Watch a large ikebana structure unfold before your eyes in our lovely Japanese Friendship Garden. Experience the power of ikebana and Bonsai to relax, rejuvenate, and bring profound joy.

Enjoy beautiful art creations that embellish the serenity of the strolling Japanese garden in the middle of downtown Phoenix.  Please see more information at
